A Winter Visit to the Garden of Martha LaFata

Martha LaFata’s one-acre garden becomes an enchanting wonderland after snow. This is why when Mother Nature finally delivered our first real snow for the season on February 16th, I rushed over to Martha’s garden before the wonderland melted away to only a memory. (Two days later!)

The snow compliments the Japanese influence throughout the garden, showcasing the importance of stone, grasses, and evergreens during winter.

Martha and her husband, Paul, moved into the 123-year-old home 43 years ago. With Martha’s photography and art background, her creative eye is always searching for ways to improve the garden, and although my last visit was less than two years ago and wasn’t covered with snow, it was like visiting for the first time.

You might remember her garden featured in July 2022. For more about Martha’s and her garden, check out that post here;
