Highlights from the Lafayette Square Home and Garden Tour-2026
Lafayette Square-St. Louis, Mo
Lafayette Square is a historic St. Louis neighborhood known for its beautiful park and grand homes. Maintaining the park and the neighborhood is an expensive, never-ending task, but a top priority for the residents since the neighborhood’s rebirth in the early 1970’s. (For a great read on the rebirth, check out Lafayette Comes Back, by Ruth Kamphoefner, who rescued and renovated six homes in The Square!)

2026 marks the 56th year since the tour began. The Lafayette Square Restoration Committee’s (LSRC) goals have not changed: to use all proceeds from the tour solely to benefit the work of the LSRC and the neighborhood association of Lafayette Square.

If you love older homes, or new homes in a beautiful and thriving historic neighborhood, this tour never disappoints. Along with the tour of 11 homes, four gardens, and one library, an art fair, an antique fair, a makers market with local vendors, a car show, and a vintage baseball game all make the day an event for everyone.

As much as I love the homes and gardens on this annual tour, what makes it special is the neighborhood. Although a trolley is available during the tour, it’s very walkable, unlike some other metro-area garden or home tours. Walking the same streets that others have walked for over a hundred years has special meaning, sure, but there are the sights, sounds, and quirks noticed on foot between the official stops that elevate the experience. For one beautiful day, you are part of this historic neighborhood and can see firsthand the pride AND passion of the residents who call The Square “Home.”
Enjoy the tour!
