Garden-Lou Spotlights Art in Bloom-2024

St. Louis Art Museum-March 1-3

With the largest pool of talented applicants in STL Art in Bloom history, the St. Louis Art Museum was challenged to choose only 30 for this year’s Art in Bloom event on March 1-3.

Elisabeth Roeleveld of Les Bouquets puts a finishing touch on her interpretation.

An open call went out last October for submissions, and the lucky few received a notification in December about the good news.

Therese Pircon of Root and Relic added seasonal Hellebores to her interpretation.

A third of the designers this year are new, like Therese Pircon of Root and Relic. She participated in an Art in Bloom event in Indiana once before, so she was familiar with the process. Therese confidently dealt with the bombardment of visitor questions while creating her design in situ.

2024 is the 5th year for Ken Mahne of Petal Pushers STL, whose design process includes a mood board, mockups, and listening to podcasts of the artist Wole Lagunju. (See more about Ken’s process here; Garden-Lou Spotlights Ken and Cyndi Mahne )

Art in Bloom includes ticketed events like a floral competition, a talk by designer Doan Ly, and an ‘after-hours’ opportunity. Family-friendly activities like a scavenger hunt and a bouquet-making station make the event fun for all ages.

Doan Ly designed the Forsythia Fields installation in the main Sculpture Hall.

‘Floral Frenzy’-A fun, competition between floral designer teams.
